February: The Month of LOVE

Welcome to 2nd Semester of the PRSD 143.5 Mentoring Program. Hoping that all of you are having great meetings with your mentors and you are receiving all of the support you need to be successful. 

This blog will count for our February meeting. The focus will be on analyzing and assessing student work. There are two videos and one article to choose. Please pick two that interest you. You do not have to respond to to your colleagues unless you want to. Your responses will count for your February attendance. You will have today and tomorrow to respond. Please respond before midnight Friday, February 16, 2024. I will be on the blog both days checking for responses to take attendance. 

The next time that we will meet in person will be March 6, 2024 at Kellar Middle School. This session will be only a Check in and you will complete a survey. 

Make sure that you complete any observations before May 1, 2024. This is the date when all 2nd semester paperwork is due. If you have any questions, please email me or Ms. Lane.

Watch this video on analyzing student data. 

Do you collect data in some of the same ways you this video shows and discusses? If so,please explain one of the ways you collect data as shown in this video.

If you have not collected data in some the ways illustrated in the video, do you think some of the ways the teachers in this video collected data is can be easily implemented? Explain.

 

Analyzing Student Work: Using Peer Feedback to Improve Instruction

This video is a great visual of how to use PLC to analyze student work and plan next steps with your colleagues. During their PLC of analyzing student work, the teachers have a Student Work Protocol. The Student Work Protocol entailed five steps. 

We have our own way of conducting PLCs, do you think that these steps are already implemented in our PLCs when analyzing student work? If so explain how you and your team have used the five steps in analyzing student work. Share some success and or failures. 

If your team is not fully using all steps explain what steps you are using in PLC and steps that you feel you should discuss more in PLCs.

Why do you look at student work or observe your student while they are working? Is your analysis and evaluation of student work for grading-(Student Centered) or for reflection on your own teaching and learning -(Teacher Centered)?

How do you assess your students? What assessments do you use with the students and why? What do you analyze when it comes to students? Is it behavior or academic or is it both? Explain. What are some strategies that teachers can use in their classroom?

School Counselor

 How do you analyze data? What are some ways that you would improve analyzing data in schools? What do you think will promote higher test scores and higher achievement in students today? What are some strategies that you could share that could help teachers to boost morale of students?What are some of the limitations use have observed thus far with students today?

Music Teachers

Quick and Easy Assessments in Music

What are your thoughts on this article? Do you assess your students daily? If so how did you make changes to your plans for the week? Explain. Discuss a situation that happened this school year. Was your mentee helpful? If not what help do you think you would need to ensure that your students are learning your intended learning target for that day or week?

 

Building Reading and Writing in Music   

Music Teachers! Do you agree with incorporating reading and writing in the music class?Explain.

Have you considered projects for the students to do that will incorporate reading and writing? This article discusses the "Music Writing Project". What do you think about a project like this? How would change it to address all the cultures in your school building? How would make changes to the project? If you have incorporated writing in your music class, what are some creative ways you have incorporated writing in your class? What were the results? Discuss?
