  1. What small changes can you make in your daily routine to keep yourself energized and focused on your "why"?

The video discussed embracing a new day. Although the strategy was suggested to help mitigate disrespectful behavior within the classroom, it can be helpful in staying focused on your "why". There are going to be days when we experience a major stress overload. For me, I found that starting everyday fresh and embracing the new day allows me a second chance at achieving my goal(s). With each new day, I am able to correct and redirect my failures from the day before. As a resource teacher, I feel bad when I am unable to keep a scheduled day to meet with my kiddos due to a meeting or a dire need to shift my schedule for the day. To make up for the lost time, I try to squeeze in as many students as possible on my next available day. If I am unable to adjust, then I ensure that I check in with my kiddos and inform them of my absence. I also ensure that they are aware of their other sources of help in my absence.

  2. What initially inspired you to become a teacher, and how does this video help you reflect on that motivation?
I became a teacher to give my students all of the opportunities amazing teachers gave me. To be there when they need someone to talk to, to inspire them to be great, and foster a love of reading and writing. This video reminded me that not only am I teaching them content instruction, but I am also teaching them how to deal with frustration, anger, and anxiety. I must be patient with them so that it is a teachable moment and not a moment of humiliation for either side because that is not my goal as a teacher or person.
Have you ever experienced burnout or a lack of motivation? What strategies from the video could help you overcome those challenges?
This video just reminded me to be more present in the moment for altercations with students. It is so easy to take it personal when everything is going so fast, but when I slow down and evaluate the situation I realize that it is never really personal. I take pride in fostering great relationships with my students so when they are disrespectful it is usually because someone or something else has already made them upset. So, being present can help me avoid escalating the situation.
